The only 1 round thread reminded me of a question a range instructor asked a bunch of us one night after class. If you could have only 1 gun for the rest of your life what would it be. Ammo isn't a deciding factor and would be available for whatever you choose but your must choose 1 gun be it a rifle shotgun or handgun.

Oh boy!! The age old question that gets posted on every hnting/shooting forum. I imagine that if 65 people reply you will get 65 different answers.
My answer:
Winchester Mod 70 Extreme Weather- I love the durability of the stainless rifle and the CRF of the 70 is a great action IMO.
Cartridge- 300 WSM. A powerful round that you can use anything from a 100gr bullet to a 220gr bullet. 300WSM has some good balistics and nice knock down power. I wouldnt be afraid to use it on anything in North America, antelope all the way to a large brown bear. Before anybody raises hell over that, I am not saying the 300WSM is an ideal bear gun but a well placed shot with a good bullet would take down a bear.
Scope- Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 with ballistic plex.
Bullet- 168gr Barnes TSX.
Those are my choices for "all around" rifle combo. I didnt really take advantage of the "cost is no issue" aspect but thats a combo I could take to my last hunt.

A good, dependable, compact bolt-action .308 with 165-grain Partitions would be hard to beat. Accurate enough to clip heads on small game and big enough to kill anything else including interlopers.
I have to agree that the Savage combo guns are not a bad choice, either.
