Well it looks like my hunting season will be salvaged after all! Since moving here as a student I am not eligible for a resident license for another couple months and I am not in a financial situation to pay non-resident fees. So I just assumed I would be taking this season off. Lo and behold my fraternity brother let me know that an upland permit is only $21 and then $8 for any subsequent day. I know i can afford that! Looks like we are going Saturday and Sunday after I pick up my license and we get a few shells. He is going to ask his NDOW buddies where the birds are at and well get at em! Only set back is that Mike (my buddy) sprained his ankle a week ago and hes sort of limited in what he can walk but well work through it for sure. I will post a story and pics as they come!

I used to live in Reno...Bird hunting was excellent there.

I preferred the chukar hunting and plenty of quail were killed as incidental targets.

Hope you have a dog, as they will increase success by about 500%.

Try the north end of the Petersen range, it's only 30 min from town and most people don't like climbing the steep stuff for birds. There are valley quail down low, and a few mountain quail up high with the chukars.

Mtn quail limits are different than the valley/ca quail so watch that.

Also...coyote calling is second to none in that area.

Also...Pinochio's restaurant is second to none. Go get some.

Thanks T Bone! We do have a dog, Wyatt. Hes a 2 year old german shorthair whos been out a few times and is getting better and better.

Mike's ankle is still pretty bad so we may have to resort to something flatter than the hills. He told me where were going but i cant remember exactly where just that its on the way to Fernley. My other buddy Zach and i might try for Chukkar next weekend depending on the weather.

We will be packing a 270 for any yotes that may be cruising around looking for a sleeping pill!

Well we just got back from this morning's hunt. The hunt could best be summed up as unexpected. We were going off weather reports of 45 and clear and instead got 21 snowing and wind blowing about 20-30mph. We only flushed one bunch of birds and we think we got 2 or 3 out of the bunch but neither us or the dog could find them. The ones we didnt get we followed but they just seemed to disappear. All in all though it was still fun and I enjoyed getting outdoors with a gun in hand. Pics wont seem to upload so ill figure that out later today.
