Nov 3 - Independents’ Day?

Agree with this, provided they’re actually independent vs “party-adjacent.” 5 earnest Independents would serve to keep both parties quite a bit less crazy if they wanted to get anything done.
But what is “party-adjacent”? On virtually every issue there are really only a limited number of positions to take. Every position is going to align with some party. I see a lot of people going through a lot of mental gymnastics to use one position on one issue with even a slight overlap to slap either a D or an R on folks running as independent. That seems dumb.

Bodnar is pro 2A, therefore he’s a Republican. 😉

Neither here nor there, the suite of positions he has on issues is much more closely aligned with how I feel about things than either party. I’m excited to be able to vote for someone I actually want this time, rather than who would be “least bad”. I wish more people would shake off the third party stigma that both major parties are highly invested in keeping in place, and give them both the bird in the voting booth.

Or a Democrat who hunts, saw an opportunity, and took it🤷‍♂️

I don’t know enough about him to have an opinion, my commentary was meant more broadly that true Independents are beneficial for Congress as a whole (and that not every Independent is equally valuable in this regard).

As an example: if a candidate aligns with a particular party on 90%+ of the issues, I would classify that as someone who is party adjacent.
What is actual party alignment on issues anymore though? Other than 2A and abortion, it seems pretty murky to me. Government owning shares in private companies? Woulda said democrat a few years ago, but it's only happening under republican trifecta. Payments to people to ease economic hardship, same story. Fighting against unreasonable search and seizure, woulda said probably R a couple years ago but now it's a rally cry of the left. I think "party alignment" is whatever the cult leader says. It's easier to figure out on the R side because they have a leader, the dem message is incoherent because they don't.

That’s an interesting observation, I tend to agree.

The way it seems to go now is one party will adopt an issue, at which point the opposing parties default position automatically becomes the opposite.

Strange things, too…for example, how did the WNBA become a hill that both parties are so willing to defend? Strange times, and evidence that a little independent disruption to the current norm is just what this country needs right now.

Not sure who wrote this script that McConaughey is reading, but it's pretty much dead on when it comes to explaining why the parties/donors/consultants wanting to keep their little two-party duopoly in place. Not sure how to share a FB video, so I'll just post the link.

His video has a call to action, sending people to this site that is for a group started by Joe Manchin and his daughter - https://independentleadershipcouncil.com/

I do find Bodnars billboard in Billings funny. Says gas/food/rent went up 3200 last year in Montana and he is against that. Really I’d be curious to as what politician comes out as says ow ya we are gonna raise your cost of living it’s great

That ain't happening. But as I stand at the pump filling my diesel pickup tank only half full for over $100, looking at that billboard while hearing the newscast recap of the Kalispell MAGA rally touting a strong economy and declaring the cost of living numbers as "fake news"! I fail to see any humor in that.

I am sure most are well aware of my dislike of the corrupt two-party duopoly. My effort in future political activities is to do what I can to oppose the stranglehold the two parties have that results in people who have a 10% approval rating getting reelected 95% of the time.

This is my second of three podcasts I intend to do with Seth Bodnar. Most people tell me I am wasting my time to think that independent candidates have a chance, whether here in Montana or in Nebraska or anywhere else. I guess I’m too bullheaded to listen to their advice.

When it comes to the issues of hunting, shooting, public lands, and conservation the two parties provide lip service to whatever degree they find useful for their own reelection. If I wanted any lip service out of them, I could probably scrape it off the zipper of their donors and their lobbyist.

Podcast number two, a shorter version than the last one, is below. To hell with the Rs and to hell with the Ds.

We need more independents. The two party scam needs to disappear

This clip from a few months ago isn't too far off:

On October 15 of 2024 Donald Trump told the world that he thought "tariff" was the most beautiful word in the dictionary. He lied about no foreign wars, but he was pretty explicit about his fondness for tariffs. Since he started his war, his mouthpieces have been repeatedly telling people that the "temporary pain" of the higher cost of living is worth it to keep Iran from having nuclear weapons. Though this problem leans more one way currently, to not distract from my point, i'll use another example: Mayor Mamdani in NY promised on the campaign trail free buses, childcare, and higher minimum wages.

There are plenty of politicians that have come out and said they would raise the cost of living and that it is great. There just hasn't been very many people listening and taking it seriously when those politicians say it.

'Not aware of your personal political perspective, but that could be taken more than one way. "Isn't too far off" in a negative way or a positive way?

To me it expresses denial of reality, but I also realize to others it expresses a mere temporary sacrifice and moreover hope and promise.

Realist old Veteran vs MAGA "patriot".

Guess my point was that billboard could have had some sort of actual facts to vote for him. I kinda viewed it as a waste of a opportunity

I view it as a denial of reality.
