First, NC isn`t known as a mega buck state. If you kill a 120" deer, you`ve got a good one. The limits are liberal in comparison to most other states. Which is basically unlimited does and up to 4 bucks per year.

Anyway, this year I`ve bowhunted my 3 acre yard about 8 times and shot 5 deer. My stand is only 89 yards from my side of the bed, which doesn`t take long to hike up the driveway to get too! My stand is situated between houses and a church, which I can see 9 houses and the church from my stand. Yet deer keep coming. It`s situated in a pinch point. 1.5 mile long 100 yard wide strip of woods to my right behind houses and then it elbows at my stand and runs another mile in front of me. Nothing like you guys hiking for miles in the wilderness of Colorado or anything, just fun hunting!

Here are two of the deer that I`ve shot in my front yard this month! The buck was shot last night and doesn`t have much for a rack and is mostly busted up, but has a big body for my neighborhood. This is a decent size doe too. He was my 5th bow kill this year, all while watching kids play, people mow, dogs bark, heck I can even watch my wife cook in the kitchen when she opens the blinds! I`ve been reeking havoc on the does, and will continue as long as they keep coming.

Thats awesome. Youve literally turned hunting into getting and can always make that long hike back for a snack and a quick nap.

That's pretty cool. Do you run in to problems with game retrieval hunting that small of a spot?

That is always on my mind. I never make a questionable shot, although you know how bowhunting can be and you never know the reaction of a deer at the shot. Also, all shots are made within 20yards, which makes it easier. I know all of the neighbors, and so far all of the deer (approx. 20 over the last few years) have only ran a max of 50 yards. Most drop in sight. I shot one before this buck above yesterday morning that only went 10 yards. I still keep my fingers crossed!

Chuckyd, your right, it`s not the typical "hunt", but in my defense, I am saving a lot of people on this road from a lot of car collisions with deer. I live on a very busy street right outside of Charlotte and it`s nothing to see dead deer on the side of the road from collisions. I`ll just keep on hunting....I mean "getting"!

Reminds me of a Outdoor Life last page story about a guys favorite deer stand. High in a cottonwood with main branches that blocked a deer catching him drawing his bow, natural funnel effects by terrain, highway between feed and bedding areas, and most importantly for the author, a clear view of his neighbors hi-def big screen TV!!

Good stuff, Genesis. Much better for them to take an arrow through the heart and end up in your freezer rather than getting run down and bloated up on the side of the road. Your auto insurance company should give you a discount for helping out their bottom-line :D

Way to make it work for you! Looks like you are playing the hand your dealt quite well. I know I wouldn't hate to only have to walk 89 yards from my bed to my stand.
