Non Resident Drawing Odds Region 4

Can you guys enlighten me on the drawing odds for deer in region 4 with no bonus points?

Please feel free to add any additional info you feel would be helpful.

Before I-161 it was a better bet to put in for the deer/elk combo than just a deer tag. It is a state-wide drawing and not confined to a specific region. I've heard the odds of drawing just a deer tag are really poor. I'm assuming you are talking about Montana.

Yes, I was referring to Montana in my post. I meant to put that in but got a little side tracked.

Do you guys have a recommendation on region in Montana that is fairly easy to draw with a high deer density. I am not looking for a giant just an opportunity for my two boys to fill their tags.

Any information would be much appreciated!

You draw MT deer tags as NR on a state wide basis, not a regional basis (unless something changed this year). You get a general tag, then if you want to apply for a special permit, you can.

Deer hunting is good across all of the state, some areas better than others, just depends on how bad you want to fill your tag.

There are left over deer tags right now... Drawing the tag shouldn't be hard next year, as I presume there will left over tags again after the draw and people start returning them.

Well if there is a high population of deer left somewhere in the state I'd like to know about it. After two really severe winters with massive winter kill, major EHD outbreaks, and predation (wolves and coyotes being at the top of that list) deer numbers are way down across the state. There may be a few little strong holds, but I doubt anyone is going to publicly point them out.

Yeah I think Big Sky is close on this. Numbers way down tags way up there are probally better options out there. But if your not looking for a book deer just a nice one can't go wrong in 6 or 7 really you will find something.

I've been in probably ten different units in the last year with what I'd consider high to very high deer populations, all across the state.

We've had some die-offs and predation sure, but there's still so many good deer spots in this state it's ridiculous.
