Thats why i wonder about why people worry about a couple shots a year hunting. Im in the 85 zone at work everyday. Mandatory hearing protection, mandatory testing. Often exposed to noises much higher. On the 60 mph days here the wind is deffinitely more painful than gun shots.

A suppressed center fire rifle is far, far above where osha requires hearing pritection.

A suppressed center fire rifle is far, far above where osha requires hearing pritection when exposed to prolonged noise

I’ve worked in industry for almost 20 years so I understand your OSHA logic but it’s not an apples to apples comparison

Its not, the suppressed rifle is many many many times louder.

One morning cold crisp morning I shot an antelope buck. My ears rang for 3 days after that. I ordered my first suppressor shortly after that and will never go back

Probably did. But there’s a lot of cold crisp mornings in eastern Montana from November till I’m done killing coyotes in February

I don’t think my oldest would shoot at all if it wasn’t for suppressors. She hated shooting anything over 17hmr with plugs and muffs on so she never shot. As soon as I got my first suppressor I couldn’t reload fast enough

I also use earmuffs during practice but not shooting. I know people say they don’t reduce recoil, but it’s noticeable with mine, whether it’s the extra weight on the barrel or just the suppressor, my 6.5 prc kicks no more than my unthreaded 223. Not a heavy barrel either.

Some suppressors have baffles angled in a way that counters recoil movement. Not all, so its not a simple suppressed vs non suppressed, its design of one suppressor vs another.

Thats a beautiful shooting facility you have there. Reminds me of my days in another place and another time where i was a member of a club that has the ranges cut 30 feet deep into cliffs with thick maple trees all around the top. Was always cool and shady in the dead of august.

Club i shoot at now doesnt have a single tree on almost 500 acres. The antelope walk across the trap range, and the benchrest rifle house range every single time i shoot. They actually have signs stating not to shoot when antelope are standing on the rifle range.
