NM elks...

@hank4elk Great stories! New member here but have been reading your posts for a while now, getting ready for my 2nd unit 12 hunt. Was this all in your home unit 12? Any advice for a newbie? I've scouted up and down CR42, but any refinement from a local would be awesome! TIA

Thank you! I did spot a couple tanks when we've been out. Made note of them, though didn't see much fresh track at the time. My FIL and I will be out there next weekend. Hoping we get anywhere near as much activity as you all had last weekend! Fun either way. Hoping for my first harvest. Thanks again

Rain.
A good one last night and again some this morning.
Finally a break from the heat.
Well,78 is not hot. But for here ,mid Oct. it is odd.
Native peoples summer? Nah,it's an Indian Summer.
I must admit this has been a great fall so far. Crystal clear days, until yesterday afternoon.
Been sharing golden delish apples with Rio from our tree, a dozen. 1st fruit.
The downpour came when Rio was out @0130.
Toweled him off and started a small fire.
We have wood. Meat & room for more.
Small herds of cows about.
Been enjoying the mamma antelope and 2 young that made it hanging around.

Hope some cows stick around. The next 2 months should be fun.
I'll check tracks when I go to town for mail. Looks like a window in the rain, until noon.
Life is good in Pie Town.

Tons of tracks yesterday here.
Tanks full & one flooding the bottom for 400'. Wallows everywhere.
Partly cloudy and 50's.
50% chance now on Sat.,32deg, W/SW west winds. Perfect.

Get the gear out today and air out the clothes in the pinions.
New sling on the 700. 2 new Gerbers.

Walking about with ease is amazing, the eyes way better than I thought they would be.
I almost feel guilty. LOL

I can hunt anywhere in this huge unit and know the spots. Filled tags there.

But all tracks lead to Hank's.
Not putting the rack on the Tacoma. No camp gear to pack.
Elk in the trees next door.
No brainer.

I'll go get my new Pink Floyd album and check the tanks again.
Life is good.
