Income took a big hit this year. Only income will be a large Social Security check + 4% IRA withdrawals so will not apply for as many species this year. Probably just elk, deer & Oryx. Will be interesting what I'll have the funds for going forward. I guess that's the good part about all the red boxes. lol

Just wanted to point out SW NM is in 3rd year of extreme drought. So take that with a grain of salt.

Got my son's apps in as well. Elk, deer, and oryx. Put him in mostly for "easier" to draw tags as 2nd and 3rd choice with a more highly desired tag as first choice. Oryx I put him in just for the off-range hunts in what appeared to be the "easiest" to draw timeframes in hopes of getting him a tag of some sort while his odds are at least slightly better as a youth.

I have never drawn a single tag in NM, got my apps in again this year though. I really want a javelina tag or a January archery deer tag.

I'm just sitting over here trying to work out how I'm going to schedule both the bighorn and oryx tags that I'm going to draw this year. Got the Coues tag last year so makes sense I will draw two this year.

You say this jokingly, but a couple years ago I went 3/4 green on elk, deer and oryx. It was a serious problem, my boss wasn’t stoked

Been putting it off because I can't make up my mind on what to do with my deer apps. I'm on a three year hot streak with the same deer tag. One part of me says I'd be crazy not to apply again I mean how often does a NR in NM get to hunt the same tag 4 years in a row? On the other side I've missed the last three Halloweens with the kids including my youngest first Halloween. The hunt opens on Halloween this year and I just don't think I'm willing to miss another. Will probably apply for the same unit early archery and maybe one of the later rifle tags.

I never used to miss an evening of bowhunting whitetails on Halloween. I love taking the night with the kids on Halloween. Priorities change in time. There'll be more deer. I never thought I'd say that.

I’m holding my app until a few days before the deadline.

I noticed the reduction in Ibex tags. I happened to be by the Florida’s in January. We glassed hard to find ibex. We only saw one Billy. I realize now the herd has been shot down hard.

I did the math and between 5 species - I have a 92% chance of drawing at least one, and a 65% chance of drawing at least two.

But I will realistically draw nothing

Won’t be applying nm this year. I’ll miss seeing my annual red blocks.
