Newest Poaching case

Hey, my log in worked today  Wasn't sure if I was banned for good, or just a TO.

@Lostinthewoods wrote: "What are your thoughts? Try to keep it on track. Nothing wrong with asking why sponsors put up with it and what should they do." & "The first one was deleted and the pitch forks came out as if somehow HT was protecting the individual or sponsors. False"

To that latter statement, agreed 100%.

Also to that end, Ryan Lampers exists within in tightly-spun web of sponsors, partners, associates, audiences, collaborators, platforms, business models, and vendors that connects with other influencers hunting big game in Idaho through many strands.

This is significant to me insofar as these influencers all have significant parallel pressures to capture trophy big game kill shots on camera. We don't know why RL allegedly committed a slew of major big game violations within 30 days. We do know that if he did not kill the mountain lion or the deer in the wrong GMU he would not have the content for those kills. It is 100% his decision to do what he did. That is also not the whole story.

Did RL kill these two animals to try and keep his business model afloat? How are influencers most-similar to RL navigating those same pressures? The RL situation does not exist in a vacuum.

For example see

Nothing illegal here. However, hopefully video illustrates my point: Cory misses x2 at 377 yards. Rodeo ensues and his brother shoots 2 bulls with 2 shots, one of which was "grazed". 10:42 if you want to see what a grazing shot looks like. Cory, later, "The rifle I'm shooting from Sig is an incredible rifle...It's gonna be a wolf killing machine but we are on such short timelines...we literally got it the day before, two days before we left and...we took it out to the range and shot it at 200...shot four shots at steel and...hit twice at 620...and thought I'm good out to 500 no problem."

We get locked into this mind frame that outdoor companies are fine as long as they drop their sponsorships on convicted poachers, and if they keep sponsoring the poacher they we shouldn't buy from them. The duplicity is problematic in and of itself. The whole MODEL is flawed - payday contingent on pushing the limits on what is legal and ethical.

This, among other reasons, is why M. Rinella takes a hard stance against any gear manufacturer who sponsors hunting influencers who feature photos and videos of dead and dying animals. Granted, it makes our purchasing decisions are lot harder, but consider what WE are perpetuating.

It is easy to heap criticism on RL. The challenge I have for all of us is to take a look in the mirror and consider how much of what happened in Idaho has to do with us, the consumers.

You didn’t do anything wrong.
I wasn’t sending you off to play in the corner. 😂

Edit: were you having log in issues?
The thread just got closed. You shouldn’t have had any ban or time out.

I flipped through a Stone Glacier catalog a while back before pitching it. Didn't I see this Lampers fella in there a bunch?
I don’t know, but it raises a good question. What other companies have an economic relationship with Lampers?

It’s good to see that GoHunt is pulling down the RL content, I applaud them for that. But who else should we be e-mailing and hoisting upon our pitchforks?

I don't have time to read through all of it. You get a different impression? mtmuley
No, I have spent exactly 0 minutes reading anything in RS about it.

But it doesn’t surprise me at all that they keep shutting down the conversation - one of the owners of RS has had Lampers in his podcast numerous times… as well as his wife…

I'm not reading into it, financial, sponsor, or other concerns into these pictures between SG and the DB. But it makes me want to sell my SG pants along with my POS snowboard (Snowboard made by Arbor, Carter Model, POS).

I like my SG pack, but I’m really getting fed up with all these companies too. At this rate I might be wearing jeans, wool pants and Carhartt this fall. I used to kill elk wearing that and somehow I didn’t die… Maybe I’m not pushing the extremes enough.

Hopefully I’m still safe with my pre-buyout MR pack. Don’t want to go back to some of the packs I used to use.

None of them have been shut down by Avery, nor have any of them been shut down because of comments about Lampers. They have serious problems staying on topic and keeping others out of the conversation.
Like us dragging Corey into it?
I’m not sure why we keep cherry picking one video to trash someone while the topic of on someone else.

This thread is about one individual. Not trashing others.

Not specially said to you, WB.

Just a good post for me to quote and make my point.

My Johnson wool pants could make a complete revival. I recommend, but if its not your thing no comments about my mother like that DB who started the thread last year, but didnt like the feedback.😉

I'm not sure why it is so annoying to have influencers and reps be total dirtballs, but it is.

This winter I bought a new snowboard. Salesman and I worked out what I was looking for (size, terrain, conditions, Etc. )and came up with one they had in stock. It was a pro model for someone I had never heard of, which is easy because I don't follow pro snowboarding at all.

It was even old school camo, kewl.

Got home and googled the company and read about the guy behind the pro model. Some random to me guy from WY who likes to snowboard the backcountry. The company who made it was Arbor. The model was the "Carter" Now I'm sure some of you can tell where this is headed.

Few months later I run across an article about Mark Carter the snowboarder and his involvement in "Operation-10 Sleep" . Which was only the biggest poaching case in the history of Wyoming. Mark Carter the snowboarder is a felon for wildlife crimes. Mother(*^(*^(*^

Not sure how I missed this. I rode that snowboard only 3 times and liked it. I now hate it. Anyone want to buy it?
Just tell people you’re a huge Lil Wayne fan, and which I personally think would make it very cool.

Is Kuiu still safe enough? They at least do a lot of good work for sheep, and I can’t think of any major league sponsored influencers off the top of my head. I do love my attack pants.

If anyone wants their large tall De Havilland Pants disposed of properly, send them to me, along with a handling fee of $10 per pair (personal checks accepted). If you are a SG whore, I can discount that to $25 for three pair or $40 for five pair.

BTW - I hope this generous offer to dispose of now-repugnant gear doesn’t get me banned again. 😀

So you guys want these companies to completely scrub their websites of any pics or videos with lampers? How does that change the situation? They already worked with him and either paid him or sponsored him in some way. He had no prior convictions or game violations so they’d have no reason to believe he’d break the law. I’m not bringing the pitchforks out against companies that had a working agreement prior to these violations.

Personally if I was to take issue with a company it would be more on the track record of what that organization has done. Such as the amount of money kuiu give to sheep. Or the amount of time Randy has put into public lands. It’s just like you said you never know when someone could start poaching

I honestly don’t expect SG to scrub pictures of the guy off their website, but with GoHunt and the videos, those are monetized. If you click and watch one, they profit from it. That I can’t abide.

But like you point out, the current pictures with the DB, its damage done, but if NEW photos show up with him - then pitchfork.

Went to school in Johnson, VT. The wool mill was a way of life up there. As good or better than Beane or Filson. I'll never have to buy more unless moths get it or I keep being well fed by the Mrs and Miller.

Back to the topic, accountability is a must whether it's work, family or this stupid social media craze with animals. Someone said before accidents happen and they do. This sounds more intentional than accidental. Either way he needs to own it, settle up and move on to something else. Sponsors are almost as liable as the person pulling the trigger when they decide to get behind some of these influencers, likely based on potential "likes" and "exposure" more than ethics, character and merit.

Hats off to @Potsie nice letter to gohunt. I'd do the same if I had one. Well written and thanks for sharing. I think you got their attention. Now that's setting an example.

I find it interesting that people buy and support products because of a celebrity sponsor. I can't think of one time I have done that. mtmuley

I bought the Katadyn gravity water filter because Uncle Randy endorsed it! lol
I trusted him! Didn’t disappoint either.
Things pretty nice but I prefer the “hiker pro” pump filter over gravity at this point.
