New Zealand winter fishing and small game

Im going to Nz in july and im looking for tips and ideas i want to do some fishing and maybe get in a short hunt or 2 if i can or just get some advice on things to do and places to go that are off the beaten path thanks

Most of the rivers are closed to fishing at that time. You should be able to access list on line.if not, I know of a few. Also liscences are pricey. What about gear? Are you bringing guns, fish poles?
