Spent a ton of time glassing, brought all the optics you could ask for and more, but no goats to be found. Great hike tho, ~5 miles, with 5k' vert and 2k' vert in the last 1.5 miles. Stairs and rock climbing, now I got to get used to the idea of doing it with a rifle and 20lbs + of gear!

Nice! I've been to the top of Thompson Peak in the Rubies. IIRC it's the second highest peak in the range. Did you see any snowcocks?

We herd some snowcocks but did not see any. Would have been really cool to see some though.

They are wicked cool birds. Wish I could have gotten on shot on my trip up there. Saw some, but no shots fired. We were bird hunting WAY above the goats...

They do seem to like to live above the goats don't they... If you have pictures of one, i'd love to see them!

Only pic I have to post is of a buddy's that the taxidermist took while mounting it for him.

Its official fellers... Goat tag in my possession... Scouting pictures coming soon, its killing me that I haven't been able to go yet, but soon very soon!

Weather for my first Goat scout this weekend... thunder storms, rain, and mid 60's temps... Mental fortitude needed to pick out goats in a thunder storm being pelted by rain!!! Wish me luck!

I will be home this weekend, so if you make it down to the southern end of the unit and want to have a beer while looking over some maps/pics let me know.

Rain delay put my weekend adventure out a couple weeks, but I was able to sneak away for a couple hours and finally spot some goats in my area... No big billy's but was great to put a few items to test in my bag.

Another weekend of scouting and was able to snap a few pics of this billy, not the biggest but sure in the toughest place to get to....

Amazing country they get to call home. It is not just about finding them, but finding them where you can get them. Jealous of your upcoming hunt. Keep us in the loop.

Love that position of the billy in the small saddle. Insane location, looks interesting country in the back ground as well. Your putting on plenty of miles scouting by the looks of it, all the best for your hunt.

Amazing country for sure, this one was very inaccessible with out having to be roped in and lots of climbing experience. (not what i'm after). These two were slightly better position with a scree field behind the chute to get access to. The only problem is I didn't take enough pictures as the bigger of the two was a little camera shy. T-18 days... hell yeah i'm excited!

Holy crap fellers its September!!!! I've been flinging arrows, and lead! Thats < 2 weeks till the opener, so close I can taste it, legs feel good, new pack feels good. Can you say I'm freaking excited!!!!!

Made a decision to build my own pack didn't like the weight of these other packs. Making this goat hunt memorable as it can be!!!

Looks like the pack is turning out pretty good. What are you using for back support?

I will be up in the wilderness quite a bit over the next few weeks, so I will keep an eye out for a nice billy.
