Hey all, I have been a lurking for awhile now and decided it’s time to introduce myself! I grew up in SW MT and live in Garrison now. (Close to Deer Lodge)

I am 28 yrs old and married to an amazing woman and we have a 2 yr old daughter. I like most things outdoors and like most of you, love hunting!

In the past I have spent more time on Rokslide but due to the present situation I find myself in I decided it’s time for an intro here- let me explain!

And this is the reason some of you may hate me lol! I drew a moose tag this year! Pretty cool huh? Well here’s the thing- I also drew a sheep tag!!
I was pretty stunned when I check the draw results and saw moose and sheep under Successful- and still am honestly! Both units had well under 1% draw odds and the combined probability of this happening is like 1 in 50,000 or something stupid.. I know there are people who apply for 30-40 yrs and never get a tag so I feel very blessed. But also a little overwhelmed with how to do justice to both tags!
So in doing research I’ve come to realize that HT seems to be made up of a lot of MT residents, hence the decision to start a thread and share my hunt(s) here vs. the rok.
I have never done a live hunt or hunt recap but always enjoy reading others so want to do my best..

So I plan to start an updated thread on my progress through the summer but thought I would get the word out once. I would love to hear from past (or current) tag holders on either tag and welcome any advice!
I understand the danger of spot burning etc. but I do think there is a difference in elk/ deer units vs the “big 3” where there are only several tags per unit..

Anyway I’m not going to blurt out my unit numbers (due to google etc) but hopefully word it in such a way that it won’t be hard to figure out lol.. Luckily my moose unit is close to home and easier to scout. It is somewhere south of Drummond..

In the past I have applied for the breaks for sheep but due to the unit being closed this year I kind of took a shot in the dark and of course drew a unit I have basically no experience with.
Turns out, once upon a time this particular unit was hunted by a certain troll on HT 🤔 it lies in a southerly direction from Bozangeles…

I have already talked to the biologist for the sheep unit and she has been very helpful, sent me a list of past kills/ rough locations. And left a message for the moose biologist, no word yet.
I welcome any intel either here or via PM but understand if you would rather stay quiet..
Sorry about the lengthy New guy post but figured it was necessary! -Thanks,Eddie

Yeah, RS ain't gonna be much help. Good luck. mtmuley

Saw a nice bull in your unit couple years ago. A location i would check out if I drew. Nice bull, not a huge bull.

Same unit as the naked yoga chick?

Lol that’s the one 👀
Check out “Bighorn Sheep Measurements” on this page for a realistic idea of what kind of rams your unit produces. I’d PM that troll and ask him what he knows about the sheep in that unit. I’d probably go undercover at that yoga studio for a few sessions as well. Probably a wealth of sheep intel to be had there.

Damn dude that’s unbelievable! Good luck on the tags. We used to camp and hunt around deer lodge every year. Beautiful area and that’s where I always put in for moose. lol I picked up where you drew your sheep tag, also where I’ve always applied. Had a huge ram at 40 yards just above the river one summer day after work. I’ll give you a hint on that location. If it’s over 70 degrees- you can’t wet a line at that spot without folks wanting to jump off for a swim…. Just north of the Gallatin Golden Gate if I’m not mistaken…

moose isn’t same unit is it?? Ol troll bapped his truck in that area I think. That dudes a wealth of knowledge for the area. Good luck and hope to see photos of your success.

That's one hell of a introduction rubbing it in that you got two awsome tags. Congrats, and hopefully we will be updated throughout the season prep and the hunt.

Haha thanks for the link. I’ll check it out. I am aware that the sheep (especially rams?) are struggling a bit in the unit right now so am not expecting a 200” ram! Last year there was one 8 yr old killed there but the other 2 were just 4 and 5.. I’m sure hoping to find a 7 yr old- plus but we shall see.
It’s been along time since I quit a job for hunting season. In your situation I think my boss would be worried. Congratulations hope you hang around
Yeah my boss is actually my dad so we will see 😂 I do construction on our small family business and have a couple brothers that are pretty much as excited as me. We all hunt and the good thing is that as long as I coordinate plans I can take off about whenever I want..
But ya guessing the business might take a bit of a hit from Sept- Nov!

Not hating you for drawing sheep & moose same year. Been there done that, followed by Mt Goat the next year. Then drew sheep and goat back to back some years later.

Good luck. share lots of pics. This place is light years ahead of and more fun than TS when comes to quality and variety of hunt story play by play threads. Dive in.

Plenty of “GawdsGift2Huntin 2024 season” sorts of threads to model after and a whole Semi Live Thread group that may suit you to post your 2025 scouting and hunting story in.

Search “tent shanking” and do not loose your mind doing that when the chips are not falling your way mid season. LOL
