Several years ago, during Trump's first term, there was a really bad hail storm that rolled thru. There was an inch or two of golf ball sized hailstones on the ground.
Our biggest insurance settlement was reroofing the house and a small shed. We worked with a well known roofing contractor. The crew that came out was eight Hispanic men. The lead man was nearly as old as I was. Our roof is a bit steeper than a typical roof line. They started early, while there was a bit of the morning coolness left. The summer sun soon had it plenty warm.
Somewhere in mid afternoon, I asked one of them if they had a beer preference. He told me Carona would work. So I bought a case, iced it down, and cut up a few limes. I placed the cooler by their main truck. After they finished up, they drank the beer, and visited among themselves. Then they left, and certainly did a similar job the following day.
I pondered that some of them, or maybe all of them might be undocumented. What I was certain of, is all of them worked ambitiously, and professionally on our roof. I also knew they worked that hard, day after day. There is a good chance they were sending money back home to their families.
I agree that a secure border is a good and needed thing. What I won't do is hate on someone who is willing to work so hard to make their way in this world.
