New Country, what are you listening too

Well stage right enter Jimmy,
just a counterfeit James Dean,
with a pocket full of delta blues and cheap amphetamine.

Her feet up on the dashboard,
like a burned out Betty Paige,
and she might have been pretty if she was half her age.

But together they were something,
just closing down the bars,
headed down to Oakie City in a slightly stolen car.

+1 On Aaron Lewis. I was unsure of how he would do transitioning from metal, but his country music is great and seems to be underappreciated. Especailly his take on "What Hurts the Most." Good songwriter and heck of a voice.

Heck of a voice and good writing. He made What Hurts the Most actually worth listening to and a good song at that. Saw him live a few years ago and is one of the best shows I've been to (second to Cody Jinks). Only downside is now when he comes around he is playing in the Casinos. Just not the same as playing in a small bar.

I realize not new or red dirt...apologies, but since I've seen him on this list, it's Friday, and good Lord man his voice transcends genres...plus the songwriting...planning to see him in concert the first time this summer

Really great idea for a post, thanks! -- Sturgill Simpson is now on my playlist.

Old King Strait just showed all the bro country, bull crap mainstream wannabes how it is done with his new album.

Listening to Turnpike Troubadours makes me wish I was born in Oklahoma. They're fantastic.

James McMurtry;
"Honey, don't you be yelling at me when I'm cleaning my gun
I'll wash the blood off the tailgate when deer season's done
We got one more weekend to go
And I'd like to kill one more doe
...
So if Monsignor should pull you aside as you're leaving the church
And I'm out on the ice, dropping lines for the walleye and perch
Tell him it's not your job to bring me to the fold
And I'd rather stand out in the cold."

These guys aren't red dirt, but they get some play on Sirius Outlaw Country and I dig 'em:

Hey Hey Revolver by them is a gut wrenching song.

I saw Tyler Childers live last friday night, I'd recommend everyone go give him a listen

Ashley McBryde was/is great waiting to see what happens now that she’s hit it big. Agree on Sturghill Simpson

Anyone catch the ACM awards last night? There ought to be a bounty on Luke Bryan.....Nashville corporate crap at it's worst.
