I was looking at the Saddle Rifle in a 38-55 26” standard octagon barrel for deer hunting. I would guess it would weigh in at about 8 1/2 lbs ??If you think you're gonna get a lightweight hunting rifle in any Sharps, you're not.
But a carbine in 45-70 sounds like what you're looking for.
You can load smokeless for black for just about any cartridge (use dacron to fill the case). YOu have to be careful with pressure and make sure you're not ringing the barrel, but I use a light load of smokeless in my 40-90 Shiloh Straight and it's accurate as hell.
