What? I'm doing a DIY black bear hunt in AK this spring. Between plane rides, boat rentals, shipping gear there, hopefully meat back, etc I'll be lucky to come in under that price.

Supply and demand. This hunt was booked in 2024 so the price was locked. If you booked a hunt now, you’d be looking at 2027 or 2028. Also, price has increased at least $1,000.

This is an experience to hunt in the Arctic Circle. By all means, you can still hunt off the haul road if your willing to hike 5 miles outside the buffer zone.
