Those are good ones.

Google Scholar paired with a healthy list of search terms can be extremely informative. Most libraries will have the journal subscriptions needed to access primary literature.

Good question, I don't know about books but the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website actually has some pretty good info available for hunting each species. Other states may have the same.
