My wife went to Costco this a.m. and bought a 10 pack of MH for 39.99. Didn't know they sold it there, at least I've never seen it there.

So just letting you guys know. That is dang cheap. If it's old news, then sorry.

wow! Ten pack - variety or specific types? That is a great price! Incredible how inflated that price is at the sporting stores...

I never understood the Mountain House thing. Huge packaging and expensive. I always like the packets of "sides" you get at the grocery store, Walmart, Target, etc. Whether it's Knorr or the cheapie brand, I always think they're a better deal at around 1$ or so. And it feeds 2 people.

I buy the sides (teriyaki, noodles, rice, whatever, as long as it requires water and not milk), and separate them into ziploc baggies. I also take along the sealed packages of tuna, salmon or chicken. They keep for a LONG time.

I can have several meals of rice/noodles with chicken/tuna/salmon for just a few bucks all in the same dimensions/size as one mountain house freeze dried "ball". Add in a tiny bottle of Tobasco and I'm set!

Emrah

It is a convenience factor, IMO... No big issue. ;)

I know when packing in from base camp to stay a night in the woods, Simply tossing in a bag or two fully flavored and ready to serve from the bag - is... pretty darn convenient.

More power to you and those who enjoy what floats your boat for eating. BTW, I dig those tuna mesquite and other flavored packets as well... that is usually my pack lunch / snack... Agree, those are great as well!

4 $ a bag is not bad at all.Think last I checked they wanted more then my 92 ounce Prime Rib from FuFu restaurant! Haha! :D Actually though - I think they were about 6.99 or 7.99 - simply absurd pricing at the sporting stores...
