I saw this in the NYT yesterday https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/07/science/bears-biking-national-parks.html the article begins with a hook to that fatality of a mountain biking Forest Service Ranger and branches out from there to encompas different forms of recreation on public lands and their effect on wildlife, touching on that recent study down in Vail and also linking to a meta analysis https://conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/csp2.93 of recreational affects on wildlife that's pretty good and has a great bibliography.

I wish there were a way to cut and paste the article in its entirety so people could at least have the satisfaction of being pissed off about the whole thing. If you have used up your 3 free articles this month quite a bit of the thing was pasted over on The Smokey Wire https://forestpolicypub.com/2019/10/08/ny-times-when-biking-and-bears-dont-mix/ a web site for folks interested in Forest Service policy. In the comments over there are a couple of Montana hunters of the pro predator ilk that you might recognise and Christian Servheen who served 30 some years as the grizzly bear working group coordinator for USFWS, though he says little other than to refer people to the report he issued when investigating that Mountain Biking death.

I'm more interested in the disturbance of wildlife issues than grizzly bears as I don't hunt in their habitat.
