I hunted in central Idaho last week with my friend, Bill, and his two sons. They all got a buck. I spent my time bird hunting with my 7 month old puppy---he needs all the experience he can get---and my older dog. Bill and Clint's deer were both about the same size---Bill's was a 4 pt (Western count) and Clint's a three point. Bill got his at 242 yards with his Encore 30-06 pistol. He made a great shot and hit it right thru the heart. We used the range finder afterwards. The pics of Bill's deer didn't come out. Clint and Jeff got their bucks from the same stand on Friday and Saturday morning. Clint's shot was about 150 yards with his .270.

Jeff's deer was a little tougher shot. Jeff is in the Marine Reserves and has been getting into long range shooting. He was using his Rem. 700 "Police" model in .308. The shot was 356 yards and the buck was standing looking directly away at a doe. Jeff went for a head shot and hit it right below the right ear and the bullet came out just above the right eye. Great shot! It has 13 points and will score in the low 150s.

Nice deer! Over 200 yards with a pistol! I can't hit anything with a pistol. Congratulations to the hunters.

Congrats!!! I am definitely gonna have to get back up that way and give those deer a try again.
