Colorado bill bans welfare cards at strip clubs
A bill to ban the use of public assistance cards at strip club atms got initial approval from lawmakers but not before a light-hearted debate.

DENVER (AP) _ A bill to ban the use of public assistance cards at strip club atms got initial approval from lawmakers but not before a light-hearted debate.

House democrats offered several amendments to the Rep. Dan Pabon's bill Monday, including naming the legislation ``The Dan Pabon Valentine's Day Strip Club Public Assistance Act of 2011.''

Another amendment said the law should not be in effect at any time at Rep. Mark Waller's ``place of residence.''

The cards, similar to ATM cards, give recipients access to food stamps and other public assistance.

The House approved the bill on second reading, without the amendments, and faces another vote before going to the Senate.

The law already prohibits people from using their public assistance cards at ATMs in casinos, racetracks, and liquor stores.

I was behind a heavy gal in the supermarket line a few days ago. She has her purchase divided up into two piles. The first pile was real food. Not much of it though. She pays for it with some sort of Govt check. The second pile was all chips, candy bars, pop, etc.. Much much bigger than the first pile. Then the gal pulls out a roll of 20's and pays for the send pile.. WTF? She has money to buy all that junk food but can't buy real food? Drives me crazy.

I used to work in super market back when I was a kid in HS in Montana. Used to piss me off to watch the folks with food stamps line up all their kids and give them each a $1 food stamp and a 10cent piece of candy and send them through the checkout line one at a time. They would get real money as change, then give it back to mom who would pool it all together and buy her beer and cigarettes. Boy that used to really fry me.

Goldtip- I believe they have made that illegal in MT now. They made the revision just for that reason.

MattK, yeah I had heard there have been changes which is good. The whole damn system was stupid IMHO, they could buy ribeyes and prime rib but couldn't sue the food stamps to buy toilet paper or laundry soap. Hope the changes have been for the better.
