I finally drew my Montana Goat tag!!!:D I am very excited!!

I found the site while looking for gear info and I see that there are lots of guys here that are my neighbors.

I am planning to do my hunting with a handgun.. I have started daily conditioning hikes and have been getting in as much handgun shooting as possible.

I see that there are a few guys that have used a bow for the goats...but are there any here that have used a handgun?

Thanks in advance...lot of fun reading all the adventures posted here!!

What unit? Some guys here might be able to help.

I did it with the long rifle. Don't know of any guys who shot one with a handgun. Good luck.

The area is 325.... I have lived here all my life and I see the goats quite often....just never gotten drawn for a tag until now.

I have occasionally gotten close enough to them for pistol range...so I hope to be able to do it now that I have a tag.

It is a big area and only 4 tags. (one of which was drawn by my neighbor) so hunting pressure should not be too bad.

Here is a pic of part of my area (as seen from my front yard)..still a lot of snow..lol

I got out to do some more scouting... have had a couple great trips and did get to see some goats!:) I spent one night right at tree line at 9600ft and a couple coyotes came in to tease my old dog.. I managed to miss one at 20 ft in the moon light with my 44 (it was hard to see my sights, but I think he got the point)..LOL

The 2 goats in the second picture are in the first picture..just can't see them too well.

My watch said it was 10,400ft, but my map shows it is closer to 10,600... it still felt pretty high, and in places the ridge was not as wide as I am!.LOL

On another day I got out with my wife and saw some nice country from our horses... this is the way to travel!!;) (No goats, but I know that they live there) The peaks in the background, above Lisa, are the peaks that I was on in the first pics with my dog.

Kinda looks like Sphinx mountain, you in MT? My only advice is take your goat as late as possible for longer hair. 8.5 horns to 10 inch horns...hard for a non-goat hunter to tell the difference..but they do notice the winter coat. Here's a couple shots of my goat taken early Nov in MT. My friend guided for 20 years and helped with my goat. It was the latest goat he'd been a part of in 20 successful hunts and the hair shows it..Good luck

oh...and do a full mount...probably only going to get one in your life...so make the best of it...My was done for 1500, my brother in-law took his back to his taxidermist in ND, so shop around, prices vary greatly.
