Well you cant beat the Montana winter so far but for hunting it was pretty darn warm. My brother with his 2 boys and I headed out to
eastern Montana for our annual deer hunt last week and we had a great time. We saw around 30 bucks total in 4 days with most of them
being 3 point or smaller. The Rut was kinda hit or miss with the more mature buck HOT and the smaller ones not so much.
We harvested 4 bucks total. I was the last one to tag out. We glassed this buck up on Tuesday morning and I
decided to try and take him since we were headed for home in a few hours.
The stalk was about 3/4 of a mile and I closed the distance to 238 yards. I was shooting my brand new 300 win mag that savage arms replaced
for me (Thank you Savage- Great Company) and the shot rang true. The 165 grain btsp did a great job on this buck as he walked just a few steps and went down.
