I am posting this a bit late. I had stuff come up last week so I am just getting to it now. Two weekends ago I headed up to Southern Minnesota. The birds were definately spooky after being pushed pretty hard for a week. The birds were in the hardest to reach areas and I found some in areas I would guess most people walk past and don't hunt. I shot a limit (2 early season in MN) on Saturday evening. I found a bunch of hens but only three roosters. I was fortunate enough to connect on two. The weather was good considering how early it is. It was overcast with sprinkles on and off and some wind. The weather was good for the dog. There were still quite a few people out hunting. Most of the beans had been taken but most of the corn was still in the field. There should be plenty of birds left later in the year.

Sunday morning was a different story. The first bird my dog pushed too hard and it flushed out of range. The we worked real hard to find another rooster (4 in this group). I hit one but we could not find it. My guess is it hit the ground running. It happens but it really bothers me. The weather forced us out of the field around 11 that morning with no birds but we had a good morning with good contacts. I just wish I could have gotten one on the ground to get the dog a retrieve.

Iowa opened last weekend. I went out Saturday, Sunday, and this afternoon. I scratched out a bird each day. If I could shoot straight I would have had a limit Saturday but that's the way it goes I guess. My brother in law shot a limit Saturday. The weather has been the best we have had in Iowa for the opening weekend in quite a few years. Last year it hit 80 on opening day. This year it got into the lower 40's. All of the beans have been taken and most of the corn, but there was still enough corn that there should be a decent number of birds that made it through opening weekend because of the standing corn. Late season should be good.

Thanks for posting, I hunted just outside of Waterloo or years and we did well but worked hard for them.

Keep at it!

Great pics! Love moving through that type of country looking for roosters! The pup looks quite pleased with that bird!!!
