Military at 17

I'm in the Parris Island Alumni. A member started a post asking how many of us joined when we were 17 yrs old, as I did. I was absolutely blown away to find that there were so many !

Couldn't vote, couldn't buy a beer, but sure as hell packed the same M14, to the same places as the rest of 'em!

Sound off if you too stepped forward at the ripe old age of 17 regardless of branch of service.

I joined the Navy at 17 between my junior and senior years of high school and did reserves in delayed entry my senior year and went to bootcamp 2 days after I graduated high school, just after turning 18.

I also did my boot camp and AIT at Ft. Knox, KY.... Army driving an M1A1 Abrams! I thought I was tough shit driving a tank at 17 but I couldn't do much else.....

I was the medic with our scout platoon in Iraq....we flat F'd Shit up!! It was great because for all intents and purposes I was a scout until someone got hurt. We also had the highest KIA/WIA rate in the Brigade.
