The farm I hunted for years in central Michigan got leased out for deerseason this last year and the owner told me I could not hunt turkey there anymore,so I am going to try the U.P. in National Forest land. Saw some birds there last fall during bear camp.Should be an interesting time.I do not think it gets anywhere near the hunting pressure that we get around central part of the state.Saw some big old toms there last fall,Hopeing for an easy winter.

That sounds fun I haven't thought of turkey hunting in Michigan. I assume you have easterns?

I killed a couple birds down near Menominee and 1 north of Rapid River. Those birds don't see much pressure.

I drive around the UP and Wisconsin every year for my job, and work in public land hunts. The most touted areas are overcrowded and suck. I never ran into people in the less publicized properties. I live in Illinois, but WI is my favorite state for turkey. Seen lots of birds in the UP though, in isolated areas. Can be real good.

Since I can only draw late season, I learned to put my decoys away. The hens come close, but vast majority of mature toms avoided my dekes by 50 yards consistently.
