Michelin is Funding an Anti-Hunting Organization

Michelin is holding a promotion that funnels dollars to an anti-hunting
organization - American Humane Organization
http://www.americanhumane.org/

Michelin's promotion provides each consumer with a free Michelin Man & His Dog - Bobblehead Set with the purchase of new Michelin brand passenger or light truck tires. Not a bad deal; however, for every one of these sets distributed, $5 will be donated to the American Humane organization to better finance their efforts to put a halt to our proud hunting heritage and traditional lifestyle.

It's time to let the Michelin Company know just how dissatisfied we, as sportsmen, are with their decision to put our tire-spending money into the pockets of our enemy. Let them know that we will not purchase their products as long as they continue to support anti-hunters that attack our hunting heritage. Sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts are a very large portion of Michelin's targeted clientele.
You can contact Michelin at:

Makes me feel like poking a stick thru him and roasting the michelin marshmallow man over a nice hot fire. ;)

Maybe they are being overwhelmed by hunters protesting? I can hope anyway....

This the reply I received:

Thank you for inquiring about Michelin North America's current bobblehead doll
promotion benefiting HYPERLINK
"http://www.americanhumane.org/site/PageServer?pagename=pa_disaster_relief" ¶Red
Star Emergency Services§. Red Star is a program of the American Humane
Association that protects and rescues animals during disasters and emergencies.

Red Star Emergency Service personnel comprise a team of elite National
Responders trained in technical animal rescue during floods, wildfires,
tornadoes and other disasters. The team of National Responders was instrumental
in assisting people and their pets during recent tragedies such as the
California wildfires and the events of September 11.

Many of the responders also serve their local community fire departments, police
forces and in other emergency response roles.

While Michelin neither publicly endorses nor opposes legal hunting, we do
believe that the Red Star Emergency Services program is a worthy cause. Through
the bobblehead promotion, we will donate $200,000 to help the responders
purchase new rescue vehicles and improve their training. It will also help fund
their travel to disaster sites. This donation has been created specifically to
benefit Red Star, and as a result, the funds will be used within this program.

We understand that some people may have philosophical differences with American
Humane's position on hunting. That being said, we hope you can agree that the
Red Star Emergency Services program provides a unique and valuable service that
is worth supporting.

Sincerely,

Thats such a load of shit... I sent them an email and got the same, call if you don't hear from us in 24 hours... Just because they give to a "worthy cause" and are on the fence with hunting issues doesn't mean that they are not hurting hunting. It comes down to one thing. If they give money to the humane association for their red star program, thats that much more money the HA has to spend on other anti bull shit!

Screw the michelin man and his little dog too!

Here is the response I just got from Michelin - it sounds like they regret the decision to get involved with the HSUS, but I applaud their integrity in honoring a commitment they have made. It sounds like they will be more careful in the future. Just my 2 cents.

Mr. Van Stralen:

Thank you for your email and for sharing your opinions regarding the
current
Michelin bobblehead promotion. The promotion originated with a
television
commercial, which features a dog being reunited with its owner. Based
on the
theme of the commercial, we felt it would be appropriate to support an
agency
that assists in the rescue of animals. That is why we chose the Red
Star
Emergency Services division of the American Humane Association, a group
of
volunteers that rescues pets and animals during floods, wildfires,
tornadoes and
other disasters.

We have a history of working to support charitable organizations of all
types,
such as United Way, Special Olympics, March of Dimes and the American
Cancer
Society. On September 12, 2001, Michelin donated $1 million to provide
aid to
the families of the victims of 911 in addition to a quarter million
dollars in
tires and services to recovery efforts in New York City and Washington,
D.C.
Thousands of Michelin employees volunteer across the country in local
enrichment
programs such as Meals on Wheels and other vital non-profit services.

The emails, letters and phone calls we have received from sportsmen and
sportswomen like you have helped us understand the reasoning and strong
conviction behind your views. Therefore we will explore a broader range
of
viewpoints if we develop similar programs in the future.

Michelin maintains a strong conviction to uphold our commitments. We
hope you
understand that we are bound to honor our agreement to support Red Star
Emergency Services which is not meant to express a point of view about
hunting,
but to express our support of people and their pets. Our donation is
specifically allocated for vehicles and training for the Red Star
Emergency
services teams.

Sincerely,

Yeah, I know this just frees up more funds for the HSUS's other activities, but I think we have made our point to Michelin.

the only way they are going to get my bussiness back is if the donate $200,000 to the US Sportsmans Alliance... It only seems fair don't you think to off set the damage they've done?

I received the following email today from Michelin. Maybe the bunny huggers don't buy as many Michelin tires as American hunters used to? ;)
Doug

Following your recent correspondence regarding your concerns about the Michelin
bobble head promotion that benefited the Red Star Emergency Services division of
the American Humane Association, we want to inform you that this promotion will
conclude on June 25, 2004.

The promotion originated with our new television commercial, which features the
Michelin Man using his Michelin tires to search for and to find his lost dog.
Based on this theme, we chose to support Red Star Emergency Services, an agency
that assists in the rescue of animals following natural disasters. Our
commitment to them will be fulfilled as of June 25, and our affiliation with the
American Humane Association will end at that time.

Michelin did not intend to offend anyone when it developed this promotion. We
failed to review the American Humane Association stance on the issue of hunting.
The comments we have received from sportsmen and sportswomen have helped us
understand the important issues surrounding hunting and other outdoor sports.
In the future, we will exercise more diligence in selecting partners for these
types of programs.

Therefore, in light of your previous communication to us on this issue, we hope
that you will once again consider high-quality Michelin products for all your
tire needs. If you have any additional questions or comments, please contact us
at 1-800-MICHELIN (1 800-642-4354) or on the Internet at www.michelinman.com.

Sincerely,
