Measuring before capping?

Just wondering if any of you take any measurements or specific photos before capping a deer or elk? Was bored and watching some field capping videos on youtube and one guy suggested it. I know when I've brought bucks in whole I've seen them take some measurements. I'm doing my first backcountry hunt next month and if I'm successful I'm going to have to cape it out, etc to cross state lines in addition to finding a new taxi as the one I've been using for years has been steadily declining in quality but increasing in price; so the cape may sit in the freezer for a bit.

Or am I overthinking it? I'm just concerned as my last mount came back with a skinnier neck and shoulders than he had on the hoof.

I don't see the need for measurements Just cape to the back of the ribs, that will be more than enough. I would take plenty of pics so you can show the taxidermist what you want.
