Today in all Roaring Fork Valley newspapersare stories of the bear invasions around Crater Lake lead to camping areas being closed.

Thanks guys! I was also alerted to this. I called the Forest Service folks this morning and they told me that they have just closed the camping at the Crater Lake campsites and anywhere within a quarter mile of Crater lake. We can camp elsewhere on the 4 pass loop. That's what the "law" is anyway, but the guy told me that he is recommending that people not camp within a couple miles and 4 miles if it were him. Bear Canisters are also mandatory for food storage. Too many slob hikers and campers are drawing in the bears I guess. We are still going and will walk on through this area for sure.
