This is a story of effort and good company in soul thrilling country.

I had the privilege of sharing six days in elk country with a a few great guys. This is a picture dump of mine, @Elkoholic , @edludwigs and M Giles pics of the trip. If it’s a great photo it’s probably one of their shots.

We saw as many grizzlies as legal bulls while hunting so even though there’s a high likelihood some of you know where we were I’m not too worried about spot burning although I’d appreciate if no one who recognizes prominent peaks names them.

I’ll attempt to tell a story, @Oak style.

Wake up before daylight, hunt all day. Return to camp at night. Repeat.

High grizzly density is no joke. The first afternoon hunting Ed and Mark were bluff charged by a sow with 3 last years cubs. Thankfully the cubs ran the other way and she veered off at 30 yards when Ed yelled at her. No pics of the incident.

Last year, Ed and I camped four days at the same spot we camped this year. After four nights sleeping there and leaving before daylight and returning after dark we returned in the daylight the last afternoon. To our surprise we found a sow grizzly and two cubs feeding on a dead bull about 150 yards from where we had been sleeping. Thankfully she was a really good bear and didn’t bother us those nights. We left post haste…

Early morning hiking break. @Elkoholic showed us how to take pics with night mode on the I-phone.

Imagine our surprise when a satellite or space debris/meteorite entered the atmosphere and burned up upon re-entry. It went from the western horizon out of sight over the eastern horizon.

We covered lots of country, enough to be excited over multiple close encounters with non- legal spikes. We didn’t find any roses, but we would have taken time to smell them if we had. Break times in the high country are a simple pleasure and always enjoyable.

Campfires at camp and cooking the Duskie grouse that Ed arrowed late in the hunt. Chewy.

Day ran into day until it was done and we had to leave that world behind and head back to civilization.

The grizzlies, birds and bugs had cleaned up the dead elk from last year. Ed packed the skull out as a momento of last year and this years adventure in this special place.

We stuffed ourselves with burgers and fries and the bar and grill in the closest town on our way out before parting ways.
