Man, dog killed in Florida's first deadly black bear attack

If there are enough bears that you're regularly seeing them in suburban areas, then that area has enough bears to kill some. I would like to see data which disproves this on any game species.

The gentleman was killed 100 yards from his house. Evidence bear entered the residence.

It was a robbery.

Just got off the phone with my daughter, the bear grabbed the dog and took off across the road.
The 89 year old man heard the commotion and followed the bear .
FWC shot four bears before finding the right one .
She said it was because of the drought conditions.

I’ve never really pondered the involvement of dogs being involved in bear attacks. I want more details. I’ve witnessed my dogs run off a bear. They scented him and started barking before I saw him. Then I made them sit down and shut up as the black bear powered walked away.

Is it about the dog’s behavior? Breed? Are we talking yappy lil’ lunch boxes?

In the fishing towns of the big bend they have bears like normal people have raccoons

When I was growing up, a neighbor down the road fed a big bear at his back door. We were always worried that the bear would get him one day. Thankfully, that never happened but I still tried hard to alleviate the root our concerns. I was never successful.

Never a good idea. Recall similar stories from bears tagged as yearlings. Fed by people. They liked the "cute" little guy. 3 years later the same people were calling saying a dangerous bear was breaking into garages and doing other damage and not afraid of people.

Same bear. The problem was caused by the same people.

Dealing with bears is not difficult.
