It should come as no surprise. The quantity and quality of the game on private is much better then public. Wasn't that way when I was young but sure is now.
This is a true story to illustrate how things have changed.
I went to grade school in Birney. Must have been about 75 or 76. My best grade school friend lived about 15 miles out of town. Around the start of hunting season he comes to school and brags "We saw three deer on the way to school this morning. We are going to keep track, I bet by Christmas we will see a 100." From then to Christmas he would daily keep me updated on the deer total. I never saw deer on the way to school and I was jealous as could be. I think the Christmas total was around 120 deer.
Back in the 70's if you wanted to find deer you had to hunt back in the hills. Not so today. Back then those private lands were fairly open to hunting. Now they have people employed just to watch for poachers.
