Cool thread and a lot of great feedback. While I can't say that taking out a personal loan or putting hunts on a credit card is smart if you have a reason for wanting to go (say an aging Father or you yourself are aging) then I say pull some equity out of your house and go. If you don't have equity in your house then you really shouldn't be considering it probably. I am currently 45 and my dad is 69, if he tells me tomorrow that he wants to go to Alaska or Africa I am going to do whatever I need to do to ensure I can get myself there so we can experience that together.
