Leupold Scope Reticles change color?

While playing with some scopes at Cabelas in Reno, I held the VX-3 I think, on a black bear mount and was surprised to see that the crosshairs appeared lighter colored against the black background.

My 1990 Redfield 2-7 doesn't do that....

What is this feature called , cause I want it . Is it standard? I haven't bought a scope in over 22 years...
 
IIRC it's not a special feature, just something that Leupold reticles do. In fact, many consider this a "problem" with the wire reticles offered by Leupold claiming they aren't as visible late in the day as others and can whiteout due to sun flare if aiming in the general direction of the sun. Their etched reticles don't exhibit the same trait. FWIW...
