Let’s talk about firewood

When I was home in June I had to cut up a couple of cherry trees that blew over in a storm. I'll be going back for a bit in Sep and will split that up. Also, the guy we bought the house from left a wood pile and I will split that up into much more usable stuff. A splitter is on my short list of "things to get" as once we move into the cabin I will be heating as much as possible with the wood stove center stack......just to cheap to not do it that way. I split the stuff here in CO with a Fiskars splitting axe and love it. Put a bunch of round in an old tire and whack away.

We have a half dead tree we’re having removed in a couple of weeks. I’ll have some really expensive walnut to burn in the wall tent.
Walnut wood contains a natural chemical called juglone, which can irritate sensitive airways. Most of it is killed in the heat of a fire but not all. Be careful in a wall tent and handling the ash.
