Dove season closed sunday so I went out to the last area we had been getting some birds just after Thanksgiving. The area in AZ between Salome and Aguila is a major melon raising valley and there are huge fields where even though the melons have been picked, many have been left to rot and doves like the seeds so some stay around all winter.
Fields are miles square
Bordered by desert
Patience, it was around 70* but the wind chill made it feel nearer 60*
This is what the birds are after
Lots of birds in the area but since the fields are so big and the birds are so wary not very many come in range
These were about a 1/4mi away
It was a windy day and I wish I had brought a full choke gun as I had to pass up shots with my 16ga skeet choked model 12 but I did manage to down some
A pretty good day
