Land and water conservation fund

Looks like they are about to divert funds from the LWCF to block its implementation.

I was told by staffers to expect the announcement on Monday. Nobody knows exactly what it entails and we won't know until it is released. If the leaked rumors are correct, it will take acquisition funds and more them to maintenance and repairs.

The Great American Outdoor Act of 2020 did establish five years of funding for deferred maintenance & repairs (DM&R). That DM&R funding runs out at the end of FY2025.

This could be very unfortunate. Representative Simpson (R-ID) has been leading the charge in the House to keep LWCF funded and used for acquisitions while using other appropriations for DM&R. I guess we will see if the folks with connections/influence with the administration have decided they want to redirect that money away from access. If that's what they want, that's what we're gonna get.

Yep, and This was pointed out in One Big Beautiful Bill. It certainly isn't for conservation. All the celebration for defeating Lee's proposal misses the larger game being played.

A couple of things to note, first Heinrich's quote “If they move forward, they will be sued and they will lose." raises the question "Who's going to sue?". Politics makes strange bedfellows, and we might be sending CBD some words of encouragement. Makes me chuckle when I think about it.

And then "...the Interior Department has refused to send a list of proposed purchases for 2026 to Congress for consideration in the budget." This Admin has made it clear it doesn't give a shit about rules (and even court orders) and Congress is enabling it. The LWCF looks to be on life support for the next few years at least.
