Yeah. If you are around cattle you see some stuff. Worked at the biggest dairy in the Root in high school. Cows are interesting. mtmuleyI saw a cow piss on a bulls nose once.

I rented a little house for 11 years on a ranch/ farm. The house had a hog wire fence around it pretty close. The greater area around the house was a 40 acre fenced parcel that periodically had about 40 head. Annually the breeding was done in this 40 acre parcel.Yeah. Yep. When the calves are shipped it's a lot of noise. We built a place for some "West Coast" folks that bordered a ranch where the shipping happens. Makes me smile. mtmuleyI rented a little house for 11 years on a ranch/ farm. The house had a hog wire fence around it pretty close. Cows 10' from the front door.
It was a shitshow. I saw it all.
Flies hatched inside the house all winter.
Perks...3/4 mile private drive, one neighbor. I could do as i please hunting wise.
Eventually, my wife-to-be moved in to the other rental house.
Happy ending. I built a new house in 3forks as a wedding present.
But I never forgot that bull lapping up the piss.![]()
Long standing tradition in elk camp the night before the opener!Never had them, but I wouldn't hedge.
That was a very good read. One thing I don't understand is how California is lumped into a place that is %100 bad. My California is much much different than what most make it out to be. My favorite statement was from my buddies from Alaska when they visit. " Man you guys are remote!"Well, it is sad that we do, but each summer I have vehicles all the time stop on my fence line and get out and take pictures of my steers or horses. My steers are picture worthy for your taste buds, the horses are just hoping you have treats for them.
Last summer my niece brought out her 35-year-old fiancé' from New York out to our place. I would say he was overwhelmed to say the least being exposed to beef, horses, atv's and mountains. He was curious, scared, memorized at the whole experience. He had never seen a live horse or cow.
I was blown away by him as much he was blown away by the experience. This man grew up his whole life in New York City and truly had never been out of the city. Think about how many people just like him live in big cities yet never leave the pavement.
I wouldn't call these people ignorant, but they have been sheltered. Guns are used for violence, and their source of food comes from the grocery store and restaurants. He did some target shooting and he was exhilarated as he had never touched, held or been exposed to a gun let alone shoot one.
He was proud and anxious to eat some ranch raised beef.
Think about the city you come from or live in, I suspect you can find a lot more people exactly like him.
For the most part, I grew in the suburbs of Denver, however I'll bet you right now you could find a half million Coloradoans that are just like him and have no concept of hunting or why we hunt - BUT they gather their opinions from TV and influencers.
We have to educate these people before the anti's beat us to it.
And yes I know Colorado is full of California and Texas transplants, but still these people need educated!
I think the big shift from CA came because of the cost of living. The latest stats if my memory is correct that CO finally had a loss of population in 2025 for the 1st time in decades as the cost of living finally became to much to bear for many. That was a very good read.
