Keys to an all day sit

I wouldn’t give up coffee for them on a daily basis but getting the taste and kick of it in the stand without the risk of side effects in the tree is nice! I would take them over a lot of the instant coffee I’ve had

No sudden “uh oh, gotta poop” feelings? Lol

Staying warm is inportant. Warm feet and hands are key. I do that with hand and foot warmers if it’s cold. Being realistic is important too. If the wind chill is below zero, pulling off an all day may be tough. It gets easier the more you do it. I love all day sits now

Those hand warmers have never done a damn thing for my feet. Its like they don't work in my boots and they also make umthen uncomfortable as he'll. Maybe Im doing something wrong or using the wrong ones?

I have experienced that as well. I like to get them out early and good and toasty before I put them in there. Seems like if I just put them in right away they don’t warm up. Not getting oxygen maybe? Not sure. So I usually just throw in some hand warmer ones in my pocket before I start walking to my stand once I’m on stand or to my stand, slide them in to my boots so they are at my toes. Maybe try that

Thanks. I will. Funny, when I was younger my hands used to freeze now I hardly wear gloves even handling duck decoys at sub freezing temps, a simple pocket suffices for heat. But my feet do get cold on stand.

LaCross Iceman felt boots, I got this big ass hunting cushion for Christmas few years back, laughed at it until I sat on it!

Turkey seat to get off ground and still keep low. Water with Propel flavors for cramping. Love venison jerky, sticks, magnum candy bars, cashews. PBJ!!!! Fleece Neck gaiter which is like adding another layer. Camera, not phone but decent compact. I like to take composed photos sometimes. Hand muff versus hand warmers, good fleece or sherpa lined, huge for me to not have to wear bulky gloves. Mine also has hand warmer liner to load up if needed but so far not needed. Small compact binos to just look at chit.

Wad of heavy duty paper towels and Wet Ones. Much more "efficient".

Really well built hand truck to carry everything.....😂

These adhesive heat packs work great especially on base layer by kidneys. I found them years ago to help with lower back issues.

I use these jokers (the Megas) with very good success.

I take gloves but have found I really don't use them in the stand. Keep my hands in a pocket that is close to the body.....warms the hands and my torso. Also, another vote for comfy seat/position. Cold will never bother me as much as horrible wind-no fan of that. I think for next year I am going to search for the best pair of heated socks I can find. Feet are the only part that ever really betray me. When I leave Redman's house I head to the same gas station, get a little debbie fudge round, a 32 oz Diet Mountain Dew and listen to Q95 on the way to the farm ;) Occasionally the tall grass/CRP at the far end of the farm by the property line MAY get a deposit before I walk in.

I used to do all day sits out of necessity when more people were hunting our land. It would guarantee that I got to sit the spot I wanted to sit at least once during the day. During the rut, it no doubt was a good thing to do, but I rarely do it anymore. Part of the fun of the hunt for me is going back during the middle of the day, eating lunch, and talking with others about we saw that morning, etc. I do try to keep this time to a minimum during the rut, though, and get back out there pretty quickly.

All day sits in September were brutal. Those are long days with not much action expected except for the first and last hour or two of the day.

The rut generally wasn't too bad because they're shorter days, and I'd see deer any time of day. Seeing a critter of any sort helps get me through the next hour or so.

If somebody is sitting with you, that certainly helps. A book can be a good idea. I suppose you can have a phone and look at hunttalk while you're there, but I hated the fact that I would be on my phone when I was out there to enjoy the outdoors, so I quit bringing one with me. Having the right mindset that the all day sit will improve your odds helps.

I’ve never been a believer in anything in my boots but if you’re sitting in the cold boot covers make a difference. (One more damn thing to pack in)

Stick a hot hands in them and you’re good to go. The arctic shield ones are cheaper and work fine, these are considerably nicer. https://timberninjaoutdoors.com/products/frostline-insulated-boot-covers

I do lots of all day sits in our shooting houses. See some of the best bucks mid day.
Carry some of my clothing on the way out, then add layers as you get cold. For really cold days I'll bring a sleeping bag and put my feet and legs in it and pull up to the waist.
The electric heated vest is a real nice too.

Typically take a thermos of hot coffee, a bottle of water, a sandwich and a few snacks.

-iPhone and charging bank
-Hearing amplifiers (enjoy the sounds of the woods more than anything)
-Practice relaxation meditation
-No bow hook to avoid being caught off guard.
-Binoculars
-2nd weapon and tags/permits for every legal game animal that could possibly walk, crawl, or fly by
-Rope or bungee myself in tight if I want to take a nap
-Text with a buddy who’s also doing an all-day sit
-Second stand location available if wind becomes unfavorable
-Hot hands!
-Enjoy the sunrise/sunset, moon and stars
-Savor the moment. As a dad of 4 littles an all-day sit is a precious gift
-Make plans of how to show appreciation to my spouse
-Pick apart every detail of the landscape and think about how every living thing uses it through all the seasons.
-Pre-range every solid object and then quiz myself on memorizing the yards for each
-Think through likely times when which animals will emerge, when, and from where
-Study the ground for fresh sign
-Watch the squirrels. Locate their dens, favorite perches, pecking order, individual personalities
-Bring birdseed to lure in chickadees and other small birds to arms length
-Watch the snow melt in the sun, or snowfall accumulate
-Visualize shot angles and shot placement for likely opportunities.
-Practice body movements to make shots at all angles
-Plan out likely locations of where I will stop a deer with a grunt tube or vocalization.
-Bring rattle antlers, and game calls for other species (squirrel rabbit)
-Take pictures
-Small game broadhead on 1 arrow
-Bring DNR bowhunter observation log and fill it out
-Enter OnX notes
-Always keep track of where my scent is going. Have a plan of what to do if deer are going to approach it.
-Monitor the arc of the sun across the sky
-check the time and temp, and then try to guess the exact time and temp hours later
-Jot down changes for next sit, next season, etc.
-Get down and pee on a scrape to freshen it up.
