Yep. The only thing comparable to this coverup in the history of college football was the university of Montana which will also be tainted for some time for the same reasons. Same deal with the AD and head coach being fired for covering up sexual abuse/rape.


Eventually, a retired state supreme court justice was brought in, Diane Barz, to investigate, she included the off-campus incident and filed a preliminary report saying that the University of Montana "has a problem of sexual assault on and off campus."



While waiting for the report to be filed, eventually Katherine Redmond, founder/president of the National Coalition Against Violent Athletes, weighed in on the matter via the Huffington Post.


"Women are slowly coming forward to talk about the systemic protection of athletes at the University of Montana by leaders at the university of Montana, as well as local law enforcement. Citizens have been calling the National Coalition Against Violent Athletes to ask what they can do to dismantle the pervasive environment in Missoula that protects athletes. The lack of institutional control of this university is alarming and, when it occurred at Penn State University, on the east coast, with a legendary coach and program in play, it shocked us all to ask, "How did this happen?" It's happening in Missoula, Montana, and no one outside of this isolated college town knows any better," she said.

Even though this forum is based in MT and has many university of MT graduates you will find more people on this board with opinions on Penn State than the local school with similar problems. When this stuff happens all the folks from MT just STFU and hope it goes away.

I definitely give Paterno a pass on this.Now the guy who witnessed the acts should be on trial right along side Sandusky.Paterno was told about this but never witnessed anything,and he did tell his boss about what he heard.he should have called the cops and he admitted that he was wrong on that,but never witnessed anything
My guess is the guy doesn't make it out of jail alive.And tell me the guys wife knew nothing;I don't believe that.At least the trial is going fast.I can't wait to hear the defense

I diagree about giving Paterno a pass. Screw the chain of command, he should have went directly to the police. Paterno should have had the stones to do the right thing instead of protecting the football program. If all of this comes out to be true, Paternos legacy is $hit in my opinion.

Agreed, and anyone that says JoePa didn't know the guy was scum and what was going on is more than a little naive!!! JoePa was God in that area and should have retired 10-15 years ago IMHO, but he was so entrenced in the game that nothing/nobody could force him to leave until this travesty came to light!

Its a sad fact that abuse often goes unreported in this world. My wife is a school nurse. On several occations teachers have come to her, to report their suspicions of abuse. Its then my wifes responsibility to contact the county people and authorities. In most of these instances the teacher that initially reported the abuse never followed up any further. Did they believe that justice was being served? Or did they do the minimum and and wash their hands of the mess? I don't think this case is much different than many others.

I think Joe Pa did OK.He reported it to higher ups the same as was reported to him.He didn't see anything 1st hand so what would he have told the police.it WAS the responsibilty of the guy who witnessed it to contact the police asap.His legacy is definitely not in the chitter here I assure you
