A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted Aaron Farinacci, 37, formally accusing him of starting the Old Trails Fire in early August, which burned over 3,000 acres and caused devastating damages to homes in the area.

If it weren't for climate change our forests would not be the tinderboxes they are, awaiting bad acts by terrorists and other sick f*cks. 100 years of fire suppression in forests that evolved with a cycle of periodic fires has contributed to the tinderbox as well.

I personally think arson with any resulting fatality should be tried as premeditated murder and the death penalty should apply. In Idaho we give you the choice of blindfold and cigarette brand when we tie you to the post.

Why just the most extreme example of arson? Letting people like Fireworks in a drought always gets me as pretty stupid. Should someone who inadvertently starts a fire lighting fireworks have to pay the bill to put it out?

Fireworks are illegal to set off here, so yeah pay for it and the consequences, which in the Chelan hills case should be manslaughter and in the spokane case had someone died, murder since they intentionally set the fires.

It's beyond time to ban the sale and possession of fireworks and have some stiff penalties.

Sounds like communism. Someone else’s stupidity should not keep me from lighting prescribed fires with sparklers and Roman candles.

I can say for Oregon the biggest issue is the forest floor. We have to go in an clean up the dead timber and brush. People will come in for free to do for firewood( winter time obviously) but the environmental nutjobs wont let it happen. We have a tinderbox all over the west because of this. Either we take care of our forests or mother nature will. Yes arsonists start many but the fast spread and food source we can do something about.

Opening up the forest floor and controlled logging is what elk and deer need. there are places in Oregon forests, west and east that never sees sun all day. We need to be better stewards of our land.

Not sure about the temps....lol....but I believe most fires in the USA are human caused.
