Is chasing Wyoming permits worth it?

Jealous? Dont really see that. Honestly see high point holders complaining more than people just starting out. When they had ample opportunity to get out in the field.
If you had been posting regularly for 30 years like me, you would know exactly what I’m talking about. I never got the unprovoked personal attacks in the first 15 years than in the last 15. I even got into many PM discussions with the trolls to get 100% confirmation. I was a Bowsite member since 1996. My comment is a fact, not an opinion.

Im going to apply with my five preference points in WY and skip out on big game hunting in my home state unless I draw a limited permit. I personally can't see the wait for wanting to hunt a limited area that I have never set foot into.
I've wondered how many people do/did this. I know more than a few.

All part of why tag sales and what people see on the landscape are a world different

Different state and little off topic but I was bored so decided to go through Montana elk permit draw stats from last year , in a unit with a guaranteed LE tag there was someone that dumped 16 points on it and several more in the double digit range and dozens in the 3-8 point range . People are dumping points . For any reason they can find

R or NR?

Willing to bet they applied for the wrong permit.

Happens more often than a person would think.
there was lots of “accidents” then …. 20 points for a 417-21 tag that is easy draw for a R . 799-21 lots of folks with 5-14 dumped . Crazy the amount of points people have

I’m always curious for people using way more points than needed if they are using an application service and that service is applying them as a group with a low point holder to get both clients a tag

Hadn't thought of that ... BP can't be pooled with NR and R though, right?

It might seem like a dismal situation with all the point schemes nowadays, but you can probably expect many states to modify their point systems to attract new applicants and keep everyone in the game. It might be worth it to keep applying even if it seems hopeless right now.

My wife’s family lives in Wyoming and I’m still not sure collecting points is worth it. It has dawned on me that I may only even get to hunt there once or twice in my life even with the easy access. For non residents it’s almost more financially sensible to just drop a butt ton of money on a once in a life time thing with a outfitter tag.

Absolutely the case.

And I think that's why many lobby for more of those transferable tags.

I 100% agree with you guys. I think that is going to be the play for a lot of people going forward.
Personally as a outsider looking in at this point. Elk hunting is extremely fashionable. Reminds me of the waterfowl boom 20 years ago. When I was a kid everyone had a rig. That fizzled out. Now it’s elk hunting. Everyone wants to buy a 7prc, take some long range shooting classes and kill an elk at 700 yards and of course how popular bow hunting has become. It also will fizzle out. May perhaps be after my time has come but it will. Right now I think if your serious about western hunting your 100% best bet is to move to a state with elk. Thats my overall plan.
