It premiered up here in Fairbanks at the Blue Loon, but I couldn't go. It isn't scheduled to start at the regular theatre until Oct 19th. Doesn't make a lot of sense...there is quite a bit of interest in it up here.

Read the book a couple years ago and still can't believe they're making a movie about him. It'll immortalize the moron to all the peaceniks and hippies

Great book, and the early songs on the Soundtrack have been good.
Hope the movie lives up to the potential.

I finally got around to seeing this and I really enjoyed it. I agree that the music was great and fit the film perfectly. I think Eddie Vedder got screwed by not getting an Oscar nomination. I was happy that the movie stayed true to the book, for the most part. I wondered why they changed a few small details, that always gets me. They are such small things, so why change them? Also, I thought that the ending should have stayed truer to the book. the last note that he left was not so peaceful as the one in the movie. I think that changing that detail could make some people think differently about McCandless.

Tried to rent it 3 different places tonight, not in stock anywhere.
Jose, let me know if you get tired of looking for it. I just purchased it from Best Buy and was prepared to watch it on the big screen, but my receiver/dvd player just shit the bed (10 years old), so now I'm gonna watch it on the Macbook. Guess I know what I'll be purchasing tomorrow.

great movie i also got it today. i seen it in the theaters, i think its the first movie i have ever bought im not into tv and had to go to a friends just to watch it. well worth it and the music does go along with the movie great

they have been around along time just not on all roads. they started back east around 1960 but they called them singing shoulders though. so theres a chance they could of been there

Awsome movie and and the film is very similar to the book! I read the book in less than 24 hours and can't wait to buy the dvd.

He didn't kayak the rapids either...he put a canoe in below them. Penn took liberties for dramatic effect as per Hollywood usual....McCandless's notes & the sister's recollective narrative threading some accuaracy with screenplay speculative embellishment. The picture (produced from the undeveloped film) of him at the bus at the end was a cool/eerie touch. Penn's character development, IMO, would have you believe McCandless to be a Pied Piper, almost messianic healer...a build-up to heighten the viewer's sense of loss.
Music was A+...the right songs/artist for the appropriate scenes.
Can't believe he didn't nail Kristen Stewart.
