I have often thought about doing those type of demos for the site, knowing how many emails I get asking similar questions, and it is always easier if people can see it in this kind of format, rather than typing an epic document explaining in words how something is done.

This is good stuff. Are there any .kml files available that show BLM and State property boundaries?

you would have to do some Google searching. Forest Service districts have shape files showing different ownership boundaries too.
