Info for OTC elk colorado or montana

Hello All,
My dad and I drew a big zero in wyoming for antelope. So were looking at either Montana or Colorado for OTC elk. We have never been out west so I am looking for any info anyone can give me as I need to make a decision soon to let my employer know when I will be gone. I know colorado we would go for the second rifle season which is oct 22- nov1 I believe and montana we would probably get the elk/deer combo. Looking for any tips on locations, if camping in a popup is feasible around that time, elevations to consider, and such. Thanks in advance.

Big game combo for Montana is sold out for nonresidents. I think there are about 1500 NR elk combo licenses left.

Get on the colorado fish and game website. I do know the over the counter tags go on sale July 26. You will need to look at the areas you want to hunt and see if they have tags.

Something else to consider is the leftover tags in Colorado. They'll be published on 27 July and go on sale 2 Aug (confirm dates though). If nothing on there looks good to you, you can always fall back on OTC tags.
