I'm Trying to Decide on a New All Around Rifle.

The bolt throw is the hardest thing for me to go to other guns now. I’m so use to the 70 degree bolt throw now
If you want to keep money in your pocket, don't shoot a T1x 22LR. They are just as slick as the big guns, and I get to practice all year long with the same trigger group and stock as the T3. Squirrels hate it.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt (and the $15 tool that un-f*&%ed it: https://mountaintactical.com/tikka-t3-t3x-bolt-tool/).
I have a loop of paracord tied to a press base on my bench solely for pulling cocking pieces up.. with 50% more effort I could just push it against the corner of the bench to @#)(# it too. [edit: the word that got edited to look like a curse word is just c ock]

This video is a good one for folks with tikkas to look at for degreasing their bolts which will improve reliability in cold weather. Doing this also teaches how the bolt assembly works so if someone gets in a pickle like @Nuts mentioned, you'll now how to address it in the field. Requires man hands to pull cocking piece up by hand like guy in the video but a table edge, paracord, or boot lace is pretty easy to use on the cocking piece.

Sounds like the firing pin got de-cocked while bolt was out? Maybe there are bolt action designs where this couldn't happen but I'm not familiar with them. If that was in fact what happened, it's an easy fix to get it back where it's supposed to be. A boot lace or edge/corner of something hard is the extent of tools needed to get it back.

Loop on a key ring works good too

I appreciate all of your input. Sounds like I'll be getting a Tikka. Still leaning towards .270 but 30-06 doesn't sound like a terrible option either...

1:7.5twist can shoot heaviest of monos!

I’m there too. I’m gonna take the cut and can plunge soon.
You'll like it. Ive got 3 shorter rifles now (16, 16.5, and 18) and i dont miss the length. Picking up a 24 or 26 inch barrel seems crazy now. Even unsuppressed - the gain of a way more manuverable rifle is worth it for the relatively small velocity cost at distances i want to shoot big game animals at.

I would go for the Tikka over the Ruger any day. I’m not mad at the Ruger, it just isn’t quite as smooth. There may be features about the Ruger that you like better, or it may just fit you better, but if not: Tikka>Ruger

270 Win is a great round. I like 140 NABs and H4831
