My truck broke down on my way home from deer hunting last week, so after they towed me to Salmon, I was forced to go back this weekend to pick it up
. I figured I would try for an elk one more day before I called it a year. I hadn't seen an elk since opening day so I wasn't very optimistc. I hiked up an old logging road in the dark. It got light as soon as I got to the top. I walked around a few curves I spoted two spike elk about 100 yards away. My first shot dropped the larger spike, fortunatley for me he rolled down to the logging road I was on. After cleaning him out, I reached my dad on the radio (who was steelhead fishing), and he brought the cart up from the bottom. I shot the elk around 9:30 am and got it out around 4:00 pm. It was a long day. But very much worth it since this was my first bull elk.
