I was lucky enough to draw the ID controlled hunt tag#2007, “Rifle Rut Hunt” for units 30, 30A, 58, 59, 59A from October 1st – October 14th.
We have archery hunted units 30 and 30A the past 4 years but don’t have an archery tag this year due to having this rifle tag and also a MT moose permit (moose haven’t begun to rut in my unit yet).
We are going to try our usual spots in 30 and 30A. We are going to try to glass up a bull Thursday and Friday and hunt opening day. Can’t tell if I’m excited or think it will be anticlimactic bugling in a bull to 100 yards and shooting it with a rifle.
I was wondering if anyone has been archery hunting in any of these units recently. Would love to pick your brain on the elk activity and elk quality this year.
