Hunting gimmicks

Some of those guys I've seen put surveyors tape every 3 feet.
I wished I took pic of surveyor tape strung out in line right to stand. Bet 2-3 rolls of tape. Stand was just inside a swamp off hardwoods. Maybe 75yds? Thinking for a kid? If yellow, Wizard of Oz music keys up?

Seems like lots of treads around tree stands. Guess I stay on my feet and hike.

Hats off to you all, don't know how you do it. Id rather hike 10 miles in and out every day than sit in a stand. Too much ADHD for me
It’s a different game in different locations. But I hear you.

Anything which purports to defeat an animal's nose.

My favorite is the blender you put weeds, etc in and add water to spray the solution.

An awful lot of our hunting brethren are afraid of the dark.

I Do a little coon hunting on local wmas. I have wondered what deer hunters do when they made a trail with reflective tacks in the daytime, then returned in the dark of morning to find others have marked trails in the same area year after year. Some of these woods light up like a road construction zone.

My brother and I were sitting in a box blind deer hunting one time at my uncles place when we were younger and found these in there. Chuckled at the sillyness but outta boredom we ended up lighting one.
The blind smelt like smoked doe pizz the rest of the season, even with the windows open.
Never again.

these things WORKED, in a way. but not IN a blind. I think there were several varieties, some with food scents too. you were supposed to put them out in front, under a can/bucket with small holes. The only flaw was I would light it, get up in my stand before light, and often the big buck would come in while I could barely see his sillouette then mosey off just before legal light. Brought in coyotes too. Animals would seriously come running to these things in the dark. In daylight, I had less success, but some. sometimes visible wafting smoke would spook them. other times a deer would come in and just snort again and again and again just out of range. kind of interesting, I would try them again.

I'm setting up a bow and was finally going to break down and buy a bow vise. I did some googling and found that a lot of folks use a bike stand and a stabilizer. I'm like great, I have the best bike stand ever. Clever idea.

So I thought about making a stabilizer and took a look on ebay at cheap old ones and amazon. I found gold on ebay.

Today in the mail, I got the fabulous, late 80's, early 90's reflective label "Terminator Molecular Stabilizer."

There were cheaper ones out there, but owning that particular one was worth the extra few dollars. I told my wife today I've already gotten $18 worth of amusement out of it. I'm seriously very excited about it's how gimmicky and ridiculous it is. I honestly orientated it in the bike stand to not damage the label.

Where I grew up I can shoot a doe with a bow in 2 days if I wanted. I'm really, really tempted to bring it next time I fly back for a hunt and stick a doe with it on my bow just because.

There is a treestand on the public land down the road from my house. I can see the stand from the road and he has orange surveyors tape on every tree leading to it.
I found 3 treestands and one had a camera and salt lick on it. Public land. No one doing anything about it.

Any turkey hunters here that use "stone" friction surfaces for pot calls? I saw cut stones for pot calls today. Is this something actually used or gimmick? I have never seen a pot call with a stone friction surface. Can or do you rough it up like slate?

Yeah. Typically a softer sound than a crystal or synthetic surface. Originally called them "slate calls", because people would use pieces of slate for the surface- it's pretty hard, but splits in very flat layers. Cheapest way to make one DIY is to get a flooring tile sample and chip it to shape, just so long as it's actual slate.

Right. I have the slate. This is other minerals. https://www.ghostlogging.com/product-category/playing-surfaces/stone-playing-surfaces/

You know these bow / gear hangars that many tree stand hunters use. I saw a deal in the store the other day that was a gear hangar with a foam outer cover in the shape of a tree limb.
Never mind the guy up there in the tree stand, but get that bow hangar camouflaged !
