HTer Goals '25 Edition

Been switching things up and swinging some kettlebells around. Definitely feeling a little sore in new places. I really enjoy the compound movements and the fullbody workouts you can knock out in a short time, but damn if the kettlebell folks I've been learning from don't seem a little cult-like, similar to cross fit folks.

Got full-clearance at my elbow post-op yesterday! It’s definitely not 100. PT Will continue to break up scar tissue and increase range of motion, but lifting and mountain biking are no holds barred.

Been hitting the gym pretty frequently lately.
Lots of different types of workouts, about 75% focused on legs.
Legs are feeling really good and strong. Basically no days off for them now.
For the first time in probably a decade and a half, I ran a bunch of gassers on the basketball court. Willingly.
Should I seek help?

the only sight I adore on a basketball floor are wrestling mats door to door.
I’m neither basket baller nor wrassler. I used to run them for football and figured the empty basketball court was a nice diet version of my past.
One of my good college buddies was a big wrassler and one day I came home from class and he was watching the state high school meet on SD public broadcast and I asked him why he was watching such aggressive g@ý p*rň and if we hadn’t been such good pals I think he’d have killed me. Of course I knew he wouldn’t touch me, I’m not that stupid to piss off anyone with ears like that.

Well, nothing like getting a Bighorn Sheep tag in a tough unit to get a person back on track.

Thankfully I was doing really good up until the middle of April when I let work get the better of me and started slacking off on the running and getting in shape.

I've run 3 out of the 5 days since I found out I drew the tag and have put getting in shape as a high priority. Just over 3 miles each time. Only 2 months to go before the season starts so not going to be able to get to where I know I should be but who knows, maybe I can get close. I've always kind of thought that being able to run 6 miles in an hour was a decent measuring stick on what kind of shape I'm in, not sure I can get to that in 2 months but I'm going to try.

Going to be trying to workout every day. If I don't run then I will be either walking on a 15% incline on the treadmill, doing weighted lunges or something. Really probably need to start some core body weight type stuff with pushups and the dreaded burpees.

Haven't done a very good job of the "workout every day" but still losing weight and jogging. Down 28 pounds since my peak fatness of my life back in January. Kind of accidentally did 4 miles last night at a 9:59 pace just jogging an easy pace, so getting pretty close to the 6 miles in an hour if I actually put in a higher level of effort. I felt like I could have kept going at least another mile at that pace but was out of daylight.

My hunt starts in a week so pretty much out of time. I am going to do one more run tomorrow evening hopefully and can't decide if I should try to jump it up to 6 miles or just do 5.

No doubt being able to run 4 miles at a 10:00 pace and weighing nearly 30 pounds less is going to make a big difference on my hunt compared to where I was in January at 261 pounds and barely able to walk/run 2 miles.

Leave in less than 3 weeks for some antelope/deer hunting in WY.

Got a strange feeling I needed to take a hike in my boots with a weighted pack to make sure things were ironed out.

Things were in fact not "ironed out". 8.5 miles with the ~30# 3 year old in the back pack, 3 days later and my lower legs are still sore. Haven't worn my boots all summer, just need to get the feet/ankles back used to them. Rather be stiff and sore here at home than stiff and sore chasing critters.
